In this video, tourists come into contact with local circus people on the central square in Marrakech, Morocco. The circus people make a living by letting tourists touch their tame, exotic animals, like apes or snakes. Since they sometimes use very rough methods in order to capture the tourists’ attention, the interactions frequently become irritating. The tourists handle the situations very differently. Some are frightened or annoyed, some remain calm, and others are happy to play with the animals and pose for pictures. The soundtrack features excerpts from interviews, in which Moroccans who work in tourism try to guess the citizenship of the tourists in the video. Furthermore, the conversations discuss the prevalent ways that Moroccans perceive tourists from different countries, as well as national clichés.
