When I first came to Los Angeles, I was living nearby MacArthur Park west of downtown. There I noticed the many men lying in the grass, apparently in deep sleep. I couldn't tell whether they were homeless or "normal" men resting in the park, so I began taking pictures. After a couple of days a man in the park warned me that taking pictures would be very dangerous as this was the territory of a Salvadorian street gang. Later on I learned that MacArthur Park is one of the first contact points for illegal Latin American immigrants in Los Angeles.
