The documentary A Street Story is a portrait of the homeless Phillip Saffell, who is telling his tragicomic life story. After he apparently lost his family in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, he is now trying to get along on being an extra for movies in downtown Los Angeles after meeting Jackie Chan on the set of Rush Hour 3. For several weeks, I accompanied him on his daily routine—I watched him draw crime noir comics in the Central Library, went walking dogs in the suburbia with him and listened to his remarkable stories, in which the real and the imagined seem to be interwoven in an irresolvable way.
